Crowns and Bridges

A crown is used to repair a broken tooth, or one which can no longer accommodate a large filling. In some cases, crowns may be used for cosmetic reasons – to change the appearance of misaligned teeth or discoloration that cannot be corrected with whitening methods.

A crown is a cap which covers the damaged tooth. With the combined strength of the tooth and the crown material it actually prolongs the life of the tooth, maintaining a completely natural look and feel. With attention to home care, it will last a very long time.

The process is fairly quick, and it starts with a consultation. After we discuss your needs, you’ll have a thorough examination and cleaning.

We’ll take x-rays of your teeth, and make impressions. These impressions go to a professional dental lab for fabrication of your restoration. They use the highest quality materials and newest techniques. Our crowns are scanned virtually and milled by Computer-Aided-Design (CAD/CAM). Zirconia, for example, is milled using the latest computer technology to create a perfectly fitting, very strong crown, and the look is very natural.

We’ll gently reduce the tooth, removing damaged areas, decay, and old filling. You’ll wear a temporary crown while your permanent one is being created.

In about two weeks, your new crown will be cemented into place. Our staff will explain how to care for your restoration, and the importance of good home hygiene to make it last.

A bridge is a permanent, artificial tooth to replace one that is missing. It is a reliable alternative solution for patients who cannot have a dental implant for medical reasons.

The procedure is similar to getting a single crown, except that the teeth on either side of the space are crowned. The bridge is then anchored to those adjoining teeth for stability.
